HP ProLiant ML110 G6 (About $400) review - Power consumption and CPU replacement

It was purchased by low-price version of the HP ProLiant ML110 G6 review.

Purchased server manufacturers than to roll my own server now that it is cheaper.We need additional servers.we decided to buy server manufacturer. we looked for a cheap Server the HP ProLiant ML110 G6 is found that available for purchase at nearly $400. (diskless, 1 GB memory) To build the server by replacing the more memory and CPU on this server.

Purchase

We purchased in online shopping.

Packing

We could receive a server on the next day. Inventory is rich?, fast delivery.


We found a keybord and a mouse in the box. We also 4 screws in the pack found in the box.


Server body beneath partition of the keyboard and mouse.


This is server enclosure. It is cheaper but ordinally ProLiant ML110.(We could not found "Maid in TOKYO" sticker.)

Opening the enclosure

Torx screws(hexalobular internal driving feature) are used on HP servers. The screws can be removed for Torx T15H screw driver.



Loosen a screw at right side of then back plane to remove the side plates. You can loosen screws by hand but you should use screw driver because screw is tightened firmly.


The side plate is removed.

CPU replacement

Next, we replace CPU. The server has Intel Xeon X3430 when we buy. We replace to Intel Xeon X3450.
We loosen Screws at for corners of the heat sink. Thesse screws are can not loosen by hand. We use screw driver.


4 screews are loosen, and we can removed heat sink. we can find a cpu socket.


Pull the processor socket lever.


CPU is removed.


Replace the CPU. Note the direction.

Check the operation

Turn on power, and check the operation. A power cable included with purchase is 3-pin type cable. If you don't habe 3-pin power outlet, you need to get conversion connector.(Conversion connector is not included.)


It worked correctly. Replacement is succeeded.

After that

We replaced "1GB ECC memory" to "4GB non-ECC memory" × 4. Boot is succeeded and no problem. Installing memory in slot alphabetical (Slot A, B, C, D).　If you use only 2 memory DIMMs, you insert the DIMMs to white sokcet.

Noise problems

We noticed that the server operating nois is noisy. The nois is more annoyingly according as temperature rises. Sound is quiet whgen Room temperture is low. But sound is noisy when room temperture over 28 degree. NEC Express 5800 GT 110b is quiet when room temperture is low. (Review of NEC Express 5800 GT110b is here)

Cause of noise is rise of rotational speed of the fun and sounds winding between the heat sink.
